The APG members make use of modern petrographic techniques which centre on optical and electron microscopy in order to examine, evaluate and test all types of non-metallic, industrial and constructional materials.



 

  • The APG aims to explain the value and usefulness of petrographic methods in a wide range of applications.
  • It publishes practical guidelines and codes of practice relating to the petrographic investigation of materials.
  • It reviews and if necessary recommends modifications to national and international petrographic standards.
  • It organises training programmes & specialist meetings to promote competency in petrographic investigation methods.
  • It maintains a list of qualified professional petrographers.
  • The APG works to insure that the highest professional standards are maintained by petrographers.
