ABOUT THE APG

The quality, sustainability, durability and the repair and maintenance of structures are of paramount concerns in civil engineering today. Consequently, a careful evaluation of construction materials of all kinds has become an essential requirement of the industry.

The majority of investigations undertaken by Applied Petrography Group members relate to the construction industry and are concerned with material identification, specification compliance and standard testing, forensic investigation, or diagnosis of causes of failure of materials such as concrete, aggregates, mortars, plasters, renders, grouts, stone, slate, refractories, industrial wastes and dusts.

The APG currently has a membership of professional applied petrographers, civil and materials engineers and other professionals who require and use the results of petrographic investigation. Most members are based within investigation and testing laboratories, consultancies or specialist materials research service organisations, but membership is open to graduate scientists and engineers of all kinds who have a particular interest in the petrographic study of materials. Application for membership should in the first instance be addressed to the APG Secretary. (For Application, click here)

The APG has established links and collaboration of mutual benefit with other professional organisations in the UK and with similar organisations in Europe and the rest of the World.
